August Newsletter 2025

The August 2025 newsletter from The Fund for New Jersey focuses on the upcoming Crossroads NJ 2025 Conversation: The Future of the Environment and Transportation in New Jersey, scheduled for Wednesday, August 20, from 6 PM – 9 PM at Cathedral Kitchen in Camden. The event, which is free and open to the public, will feature panelists Peter Kasabach, Adriana Abizadeh, Tamara Toles O’Laughlin, and Doug O’Malley, to discuss sustainable solutions for the state’s environmental and transportation challenges. The newsletter also shares key developments being monitored, including preparation for the 2030 Census , analysis of the state’s new $58.8 billion FY2026 budget , and changes to asylum and work permit fees by the U.S. government. Grantee News highlights a legal victory for the Green and Healthy Homes Initiative regarding $180 million in terminated EPA funding , and advocacy wins for Lead Free-NJ, NJ Future and partners in extending a deadline for school water funding and the passage of lead hazard disclosure and water station grant legislation. Notable reports include the Housing and Community Development Network of NJ’s Out of Reach report, stating a worker in NJ needs to earn $39.99 per hour to afford a two-bedroom apartment , and its finding that nonprofit developers have generated $2.45 billion in economic activity since 2019.
